At least half of world-class players say they would be prepared to quit mainstream international cricket to appear exclusively in the lucrative Indian Premier League, according to a survey. In the Federation International Cricketers' Associations (FICA) report released on Thursday, 52 percent of those polled said they would be willing to quit the traditional forms to pursue IPL riches.
The FICA findings are in line with a recent poll conducted by the Professional Cricketers' Association that half of England's leading players would consider quitting international cricket early to play in the IPL. World cricket chiefs are meeting in Dubai this weekend hoping to safeguard the game's future amid a lucrative Twenty20 revolution fuelled by the sport's economic powerhouse India.
The FICA survey targeted 105 international players and received 64 responses.FICA chief executive Tim May said the emergence of IPL and the 'rebel' Indian Cricket League (ICL), and the potential conflict of fixtures, could result in......
leading players leaving the international game."It is important that such conflicts are avoided by the creation of a window in the international programme," May said. "This is not to say the introduction of Twenty20 cricket is all negative -- it is far from that.
"Cricket's biggest challenge is to find a satisfactory balance between the established forms of the game and Twenty 20." Most international cricketers want Test matches to remain the sport's priority and believe the Twenty20 boom will affect the one-day game more than Test cricket, the survey also found.May, a former Australian Test off-spinner, said the process of constructing the International Cricket Council's Future Tours Programme beyond 2012 was crucial to achieving that balance.
The survey comes at a time where Twenty20 is bringing an extraordinary cash influx into the game with the creation of the ICL and the officially-backed IPL, both of which offer players huge pay days.

Everyone knows that legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty, who bought the Kolkata side of the Indian Cricket League, doesn’t retract from what he intends to do. Without going much into details, it seemed, Mithun now wants his matches to be staged at the Eden at any cost and for that he can knock any door. So let’s watch out! Mithun spoke to DNA on various issues of ICL in a free-wheeling interview on Wednesday evening. Excerpts:
Why did you choose cricket over football considering the fact that you are a football fan?
I am still a football fan but my association with cricket has been a long standing affair. If you remember, I used to organize a cricket tournament Raj Kapoor Trophy in Chembur till few years back. You can say that that my passion for sports has compelled me to get associated with the ICL. I also intend to own a football side in the near future.
More Worth Reading Question and Answers below: Did you see Kolkata Tigers’ matches or you just went by your love for the city?
I belong to Kolkata and I start everything in Kolkata. It wouldn’t have been fair had I invested for some other team after being a son of the soil.
Did you get any offer to buy an ICL side, or you just wanted to enter cricket?
You must have seen that I do a reality show for Zee Television (Kolkata) with Rajib Chatterjee looking after the event…After I came to know about the ICL, I asked Rajib to go for it…Frankly speaking it is 60 percent love for the game and 40 percent business.
How difficult is it to get associated with ICL Kolkata side, when iconic Sourav Ganguly will be leading the IPL side there?
I would again say that there is no clash of interest… It’s a matter of personal choice. I liked the way ICL have been oraganising matches and so I chose to be a part of that. Sourav, offcourse, must have thought it in a different way.
Why did you first change the name of Kolkata Tigers?
Though I am from Kolkata itself, I proposed to change the name to Royal Bengal Tigers as because the name will include entire Bengal. Proposal was accepted and the name has been changed. I think it in a bigger perspective as people from all over Bengal will feel attached to it.
Have you spoken to your players after taking over?
I had a brief session with Deep (Dasgupta), Rohan Gavaskar, Abhishek (Jhunjhunwala) but I will sit with all the concerned heads on April 7 and decide on the future course of action. I have entered ICL only in the second season of it and now I have to get the things done as it should be.
What is your take on BCCI’s stance of de-recognising ICL?
This up to the BCCI and ICL… I don’t interfere in the things which I don’t know.

For Heroes, Nicky Boje top scored with 47 after skipper Chris Harris won the toss and elected to bat. However, after Boje's dismissal, done in by a slower one from Thiru Kumaran in the 17th over, the Superstars put up a top class effort in the field and prevented any major onslaught from the Heroes in the last five overs to restrict them to 147/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, the Superstars came in with their tested explosive combination of Ian Harvey and Ganapathi Vignesh. But the combination did not get off to a good start after Vignesh was sent back by Abdul Razzaq without troubling the scorers. Justin Kemp then castled Harvey in the second over to put the defending champions in deep trouble at 4/2......... Continue Reading and Watch Online Full Match....
